How Much Does a Resume Writer Cost? What You Get at Each Price

Prices for professional resume writing run from under $100 to well over $1,000. Here's what drives the difference, what you should expect at each level, and how to tell whether a price is fair.

The short answer

Most established resume writing services charge roughly $150 to $400 for a resume, depending on your career level. Executive resumes often start around $600. Independent writers and freelancers usually charge less, sometimes under $100.

Typical resume writing prices by career level

Large resume writing companies publish their price ranges, which makes them a useful benchmark. Here's how two of them break it down:

Career levelTypical price rangeWhat's usually included
Entry levelAbout $150 to $250Resume, often with a cover letter
Mid-careerAbout $200 to $400Resume and cover letter, sometimes LinkedIn
Senior managementAbout $400 to $600Resume, cover letter, LinkedIn
Executive / C-suite$600 and upFull package, often with a call with the writer

Ranges combine the published pricing guides from Resumeble (March 2026) and TopResume. Individual quotes vary.

What makes one resume writer cost more than another

  • Your career level. Ten years of roles and results take longer to shape than one internship. TopResume estimates a new resume takes around ten hours of writer time.
  • What's in the package. A resume on its own costs less than a resume with a cover letter, references page, and LinkedIn profile.
  • Turnaround time. Large services often take about a week from start to finish. Faster delivery can cost extra.
  • Who you're paying. Big companies carry marketing, sales, and account staff, and that overhead is part of the price. An independent writer has far less of it.
  • Extras. Phone consultations, career coaching, and "guarantees" push prices up.

What you should get at each price

Under $100

Usually an independent writer or freelancer. This range can be excellent value, but quality varies the most here. Before you pay, look for real samples, reviews from real clients, a clear revision policy, and an editable Word file, not just a PDF.

$100 to $300

Entry and mid-level packages at most established services. You should get a resume written from scratch (not your old one with new fonts), wording matched to your target job, and at least one round of revisions. A cover letter is often included.

$300 to $700

Mid-career to senior packages. Expect a resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile, and sometimes a call with the writer to discuss your goals.

$700 and up

Executive packages with personal branding, board bios, or coaching. Worth considering when the roles you're targeting justify the investment.

Red flags at any price

  • Promises of interviews or a job. No writer controls a hiring decision. If a service offers a "guarantee," read what it actually covers. It's often a free rewrite, not a job.
  • No samples or reviews you can check. You should be able to see the kind of work you're paying for.
  • PDF only. You'll need an editable file to update your resume for future applications.
  • Unclear revisions. If the revision policy isn't written down, ask before you pay.
  • You never know who's working on it. You should be able to ask questions and get answers from the person handling your order.

Questions to ask before you pay

  1. Will my resume be written from scratch, or edited?
  2. What files will I receive?
  3. How many revisions are included, and for how long?
  4. When will I get my first draft?
  5. Who will I be talking to during the order?
  6. Do you use AI writing tools? A fair writer will answer plainly.

What I charge, and why

I'm an independent resume writer, so my prices sit well below the large services. Here's exactly what each package costs:

PackagePriceWhat you get
Essential$50$100Resume written from scratch, delivered in 24 hours
Professional$70$140Resume, matching cover letter, and references page, in 36 hours
Premium$95$190Everything in Professional, plus your LinkedIn profile, in 48 hours

Every package includes editable Word and PDF files and unlimited revisions until you're happy. And to answer question 6 on my own list: yes, I use AI writing tools in my work.

The bottom line

A higher price doesn't automatically mean a better resume, and a lower one doesn't mean a worse one. Judge a writer by their samples, their reviews, what's included, and how clearly they answer your questions before you pay.
